Dr Jai P Nathani is a Consultant Psychiatrist based in Western Australia. He completed an Advanced Certificate in the Psychotherapies. He and his research team were the 2025 recipients of the Psychotherapy Award from the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP).
Dr Nathani studied and trained in Sydney, NSW where he obtained a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in 2011 from the University of New South Wales (UNSW), an Advanced Master’s in Medicine (Psychiatry) in 2018 from The University of Sydney, and fellowship with the RANZCP in 2020. He has worked closely with some of the most vulnerable members of our community including Aboriginal Australian peoples, asylum seekers and refugees, people with intellectual disabilities, homeless people, victims of Family and Domestic Violence, and people with major mental illnesses in the Emergency Department and High Dependency Unit settings.
To provide greater access to psychiatric services, Dr Nathani provides evening appointments. Dr Nathani provides individual Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), supportive psychotherapy as well psychodynamic psychotherapy. He has experience using effective biological treatments such as clozapine, lithium, and electro-convulsive therapy, and is interested in adopting the use of novel treatments such as dexamphetamine and other stimulants, oxytocin, psilocybin, MDMA and ketamine in his practice to complement the psychotherapies.
Dr Nathani provides face-to-face assessments at the clinic in East Perth for people between 13 and 65 years old. He has an interest in people with schizophrenia, other psychotic disorders, ADHD, mood disorders such as bipolar affective disorder, major depressive disorder and adjustment disorders, generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, PTSD, substance use disorders and personality disorders. Treatments will generally involve a combination of medications and therapy.
